Full story and interview in The Nation

Joyciline Jepkosgei is a Kenyan born half marathoner who turned professional in 2015, representing Adidas. She placed second in the 2016 Kenyan Defense Forces 5K and 10K, before earning third in the Kenyan Athletics 10,000m Championships. However, it wasn’t until her 2017 season that she rose to global prominence.

Jepkosgei, in her premier race debut, lowered her personal best to 66:08 – placing third in the RAK Half Marathon, making her the seventh fastest all time. Only a month and a half later, she established herself as the fastest all time, running a world record of 64:52. Despite her record-breaking performance, her most impressive feat was breaking the 10K, 15K, and 20K world records en route.

Later that year, she became the first woman ever to run sub 30 in the road 10K – setting a mark of 29:43 to win the Prague Grand Prix. A month later, she broke her half marathon world record yet again, lowering her time by one second in 64:51 at the Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Half Marathon. Jepkosgei now looks to run her marathon debut this December at the Honolulu Marathon.
