Mirriam Cherrop is the defending Kalakaua Merrie Mile female champion. Last year, she powered through the line in a quick 4:24.7 – more than enough to set the Hawaii all-comers record.

Competed for the University of Michigan.  Most recently 22nd at the ultra-competitive 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championships

In April this year she established herself as one of the greats – winning the Commonwealth Games 3K Steeple – becoming the first Jamaican ever to win senior international gold. She concluded her stellar season by running a 9:14 steeple and lowering her own national record at the Brussels DL

Of the 29,000 athletes entered in today’s 44th annual Honolulu Marathon, several local runners distinguished themselves with solid performances. The top Hawaiian residents to finish were Jacob Alplund of Honolulu (2:43:40) and Polina Carlson of Kailua (2:55:17). Alplund, a former tennis player, finished 26th overall.
