Honolulu champions win at Boston and London marathons
Former Honolulu Marathon champions Lawrence Cherono and Brigid Kosgei win big at the 2019 Boston Marathon and London Marathon, part of the World Marathon Majors.
Cherono and Kosgei, both from Kenya won the 2016 & 2017 Honolulu Marathon and also smashed the course records in the process. Lawrence Cherono’s time of 2:08:27 at the 2017 Honolulu Marathon was, in fact, the fastest marathon run on US soil that year.
Brigid Kosgei’s 2017 time of 2:22:15, crushed the course record by over 5 minutes, proving that world-class times can be run in Honolulu and that she was destined to win a World Marathon Major.
Our current men’s champion, Titus Ekiru, also enjoyed success in April, winning the prestigious Milano Marathon in a blistering course record time of 2:04:46 on April 7.
